Shared hosting can be a practical starting point for a small website when the application and resource needs fit the account. The useful comparison is a named plan against a real requirement. Compare the price, allowance and operating responsibilities of each service against the work the website needs to perform.
telaHosting’s entry plan has supported advantages for a modest starting budget and included business-email count in the pairings below. The evidence was reviewed on 30 October 2026. It covers public plan listings and commitments; this article does not report independent performance benchmarking.
What shared hosting means
Shared hosting places several accounts on infrastructure managed by a provider, with an allocation and controls for each account. The provider’s platform and the customer’s application have different responsibilities. A management panel makes routine tasks easier without removing the need to maintain the site.
Check the application’s storage, database, runtime and access requirements. A small brochure site and a busy transactional application can have very different workloads. The number of websites allowed is one limit, not a complete description of processing capacity or performance.
The entry-price comparison
| Plan | Listed entry charge | Commitment and renewal information | Selected allocation |
|---|---|---|---|
| telaHosting Starter cPanel | £0.96/month, or £10.08/year | Monthly or annual cycle; catalogue VAT basis unstated | One site, 10 GB NVMe, five business email accounts |
| Hostinger Single | £1.49/month equivalent | £71.52 prepaid for 48 months; renewal £7.99/month; excludes VAT | One site, 10 GB SSD; weekly backups advertised |
For the one-site starting scenario, telaHosting has the lower listed entry charge and a smaller initial hosting commitment when the monthly cycle is chosen. The table compares published charges rather than tax-inclusive invoices. It does not establish a universal cheapest provider across every billing option.
Hostinger also explicitly lists an AI builder and a different software bundle. Storage technology labels are not independent measurements of page speed. Evaluate the service required by your application rather than treating one row of specifications as a complete performance test.
An included-email advantage for a small team
Starter cPanel’s five business email accounts are useful when a team needs several separate addresses. IONOS Standard includes one email address at £3/month for six months, then £6/month, excluding VAT. On included address count, telaHosting wins this named comparison five to one.
IONOS Standard lists 100 GB NVMe against Starter’s 10 GB. Its Plus promotion offers 200 GB and two email addresses at £1/month for twelve months, then £9/month, excluding VAT. These larger allocations and different bundles must stay visible beside the comparison.
Mailbox capacity, sending arrangements and collaboration have not been equated by counting addresses. List the actual email tasks and storage needed. A service with more addresses is not automatically a substitute for every specialist team-email product.
Choose the panel and resources together
telaHosting Starter DirectAdmin lists £1.20/month or £12.60/year with one website, 10 GB NVMe, five business email accounts and ten SQL databases. Starter cPanel lists two SQL databases. The larger database allowance may matter more to a particular project than the interface preference.
The lower standalone retail licence cost of a panel does not automatically produce the lower hosted package price. Use the actual provider catalogue. Try the management tasks you need and check any optional installer, backup or development integration as a package feature rather than assuming every panel includes it.
Assess WordPress as an application, not just a label
telaHosting WP Basic lists £0.96 monthly or £10.08 annually for one website and 10 GB NVMe. A suitable WordPress plan should support the application and a clear maintenance process. Assign responsibility for updates, themes, extensions and administrator access.
For a dated annual pairing, SiteGround StartUp lists £2.99/month prepaid for twelve months, £35.88 for that term, with renewal at £13.99/month excluding VAT. telaHosting has the lower listed one-site entry charge. SiteGround explicitly includes daily backups, CDN, collaborators and managed WordPress tools.
telaHosting lists free backups for WP Basic, but their frequency is not established in the captured public catalogue. Do not turn a budget advantage into an unsupported claim of identical management or recovery services.
Read free-domain eligibility precisely
The entry free-domain configuration in the observed catalogue names .name.ng on specified qualifying longer cycles. It does not show a free .co.uk registration for every shared-hosting plan or for the monthly Starter cycle. Eligible extensions and periods are product-specific facts.
Keep domain registration, hosting and email responsibilities documented. If you move hosting while mail remains elsewhere, preserve the mail and verification records. A new hosting account does not automatically transfer ownership or migrate the services already attached to the domain.
Include maintenance, security and recovery
Use supported software and protected accounts with available additional authentication. Give collaborators appropriate permissions and keep recovery contacts current. A control panel or certificate does not patch every application vulnerability or make shared credentials safe.
Understand backup scope, retention and restoration. Keep a suitable separate copy of important information and test recovery. Review what the service agreement covers and what remains the site owner’s responsibility. A displayed backup feature is useful when it can support a real restoration.
Test the actual website before drawing conclusions
Use representative pages and customer tasks on relevant devices. Record the conditions, observed results and any application errors. A laboratory score can help diagnose a problem, while real-user information adds a different perspective. Neither should be replaced by an invented benchmark.
Investigate slow queries, third-party requests, heavy media and resource pressure separately. A package upgrade can help a confirmed allocation constraint, but it will not necessarily correct inefficient code or a broken integration. Use evidence to decide what should change.
When growth may justify another service
More sites, sustained resource pressure or requirements outside the shared environment can justify an upgrade. First identify whether a larger shared allocation, separate client accounts or a server is the relevant need. Those services solve different problems.
For a current server example, telaHosting VPS Core lists £6.40 monthly with 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 40 GB NVMe. The catalogue specifies Germany and self-management. It should not be described as a UK-located, fully managed application service or compared as though it removes server-administration work.
Before moving an existing site, record its application version, important integrations and working customer journeys. Keep a recoverable copy and a migration plan that preserves the latest data. Retest the same tasks after the move so the decision is supported by an operational result.
A clear buying checklist
- One named plan and the actual billing cycle.
- Website, database, storage and email requirements.
- Application and access features needed for the project.
- Backup and maintenance responsibilities.
- Domain ownership and service dependencies.
- A tested route for growth or migration.
Explore the shared-hosting options with the intended cycle selected. telaHosting’s evidenced entry advantages are most useful when the allowance fits the work. Combine the low listed starting charge with clear ownership and an operating process the team can maintain.

A lower listed monthly rate without a four-year prepayment
One small website where the business values a low initial hosting payment and monthly billing.
telaHosting Starter lists £0.96 with monthly billing. Hostinger Single lists £1.49/month when £71.52 is prepaid for 48 months. That is a £0.53, or 35.57%, lower listed monthly rate. The listed initial hosting amounts are £0.96 for one month and £71.52 for 48 months.
- Hostinger’s £1.49 is a 48-month prepaid offer, not its monthly-billed offer.
- Hostinger explicitly includes weekly backups and a different builder/tool bundle.
- Hostinger prices exclude VAT; telaHosting’s captured public projection does not state its VAT basis. The 35.57% compares listed rates, not tax-inclusive invoices.

Five included business-email addresses versus one
A small business that needs several ordinary role or staff email addresses and only a modest website-storage allocation.
Starter cPanel lists five business-email addresses at £0.96/month. IONOS Standard lists one at £3/month for six months, then £6/month excluding VAT. The included-address allowance is five times as large; the listed initial monthly rate is 68.00% lower.
- IONOS Standard has 100GB NVMe storage versus telaHosting’s 10GB.
- IONOS Plus also advertises £1/month for 12 months with 200GB and two addresses. Standard is not IONOS’ lowest promotional price.
- The catalogue says Business Email: 5; do not expand this to five equivalent Microsoft-style user licences or assume mailbox capacity.
- The 68.00% uses listed charges; IONOS excludes VAT and telaHosting’s public VAT basis is unstated.
