A first business website might need a few service pages, a contact form, a blog and a small number of email addresses. Paying for a large allocation before you need it can divert money from photography, useful content and customer acquisition. The sensible starting question is which plan meets that workload with a payment commitment you can manage.
Here we examine published offers reviewed on 30 October 2026. The comparison identifies particular advantages for telaHosting: a lower listed starting charge, monthly billing and a useful included email allowance. It does not invent a performance league table. Storage labels and advertised features are supplier information, while an independent speed result would require the same website, test conditions and measurements on every service.
What a first WordPress website needs
WordPress needs an appropriate PHP and database environment, HTTPS, enough storage for its files and media, and a way to maintain the application. A brochure website can be modest in size, although large original images, email archives and multiple backup copies can consume storage unexpectedly. Check how a plan counts website files, databases and mail against its allowance.
Read the distinction between a WordPress-compatible service and an extensively managed service. Installation assistance, automatic updates, staging, recovery and plugin troubleshooting are different tasks. A plan name alone does not establish which of them the supplier performs. Assign responsibility for each one before launch, even when the hosting bill is small.
Where telaHosting reduces the starting hosting charge
telaHosting WP Basic lists one website, 10GB NVMe storage and five business-email addresses. Its captured catalogue offers £0.96 with monthly billing or £10.08 paid annually. The annual amount is equivalent to £0.84 per month; it is not the monthly-billed price.
| Published offer | Starting charge and commitment | Relevant allocation |
|---|---|---|
| telaHosting WP Basic | £0.96 billed monthly, or £10.08 for one year | One website; 10GB NVMe; five email addresses |
| SiteGround StartUp | £2.99/month, prepaid for 12 months; advertised renewal £13.99/month, excluding VAT | One website; 10GB storage; daily backups and CDN advertised |
For a buyer whose priority is the listed hosting charge for one small WordPress site, telaHosting wins this pairing. It also lets that buyer begin with a monthly payment instead of the captured SiteGround annual commitment. The annual telaHosting charge is £10.08 compared with £35.88 calculated from SiteGround’s introductory £2.99 monthly equivalent over twelve months.
These are published hosting charges, not a tax-inclusive saving calculation. SiteGround expressly marks its offer excluding VAT; the captured telaHosting catalogue does not establish a VAT basis. SiteGround also lists daily backups, collaborators and managed WordPress tools. WP Basic lists free backups, but their frequency was not established by this review. Those services should not be described as identical.
Where monthly flexibility beats a long prepayment
A low headline price can still require a sizeable first payment. In the captured Hostinger Single offer, £1.49 per month requires £71.52 for 48 months, excluding VAT. telaHosting Starter cPanel lists £0.96 billed monthly for one site and 10GB NVMe storage. It has both the lower listed entry charge and the smaller initial hosting payment in this comparison.
That distinction can help a sole trader testing a business idea or a club setting up its first website. It limits the amount committed to hosting at the start. It does not establish which service will suit a complicated shop or a publisher with a large archive. Hostinger separately advertises weekly backups and an AI builder; its bundle differs from telaHosting’s.
Separate three figures in your own budget: the payment due at the start, the charge over the initial term, and the price after any introductory period. Keeping them separate makes an annual equivalent useful without allowing it to hide a multi-year commitment. Include paid themes, plugin renewals and domain renewals in the same worksheet.
Where five included email addresses help a small team
A small business may need distinct addresses for enquiries, accounts, bookings and individual staff. telaHosting Starter lists five business-email addresses. IONOS Standard lists one, alongside £3/month for its first six months and £6/month afterwards, excluding VAT. On the included-address count, the telaHosting allowance wins five to one.
That is an address-count comparison. It does not establish equivalent mailbox storage, spam filtering, shared-calendar features or retention. IONOS Standard advertises 100GB NVMe storage, substantially more than telaHosting Starter’s 10GB. Its separate Plus promotion also has a different introductory price and allocation, so Standard should not be presented as the supplier’s lowest possible offer.
Before choosing based on email, establish whether the quoted allowance suits the people who need individual logins. A forwarding alias and a separate mailbox do different jobs. For staff turnover and accountability, document which person controls each mailbox and how access is removed. Protect the account used for domain and hosting recovery especially carefully.
Assess performance without invented benchmarks
A hosting provider cannot remove the cost of an oversized hero image, a slow external booking widget or an inefficient plugin query. Build a representative page and measure it with repeatable settings. Record the device profile, network conditions, URL, cache state and time of each run. Compare more than one run, including an uncached visit where that reflects the real customer journey.
For an existing site, examine actual visitor data and resource use before moving. A slow checkout might be caused by application code or a payment integration rather than the server. Ask how CPU, memory, simultaneous processes and database limits work on the proposed plan; a storage allowance is not a complete capacity specification.
Security, backups and support deserve specific questions
Look for a maintained application environment, certificate management and a clear recovery process. Use unique administrator accounts and two-step verification where available. Keep plugins and themes supported, remove unused extensions and retain an independent copy of important site data. The host’s backup feature is one part of that process.
Ask which files, databases and mail are backed up, how frequently copies are made, how long they are retained, and who performs a restoration. For a shop, establish how recent orders would be preserved during recovery. A backup that has never been restored is an untested recovery assumption.
Support questions should describe a real task: recovering a failed update, changing a PHP version, investigating a resource limit or moving a mailbox. Establish the contact channel, relevant support scope and expected escalation process. A published feature list does not provide evidence for invented response times or an unsupported round-the-clock service promise.
Choose a plan around the next useful stage
A one-site service business can start by listing its essential pages, media size, email needs and form integrations. A shop should add payment callbacks, stock updates, order emails and peak buying periods. An agency should decide whether client sites need separate accounts instead of putting unrelated businesses under one login.
Match those requirements to current plan specifications. For this review’s small-site scenarios, telaHosting provides convincing evidence of a lower listed starting charge and useful payment flexibility. Those are practical advantages you can verify directly. Start with the WordPress hosting plans, identify the appropriate allocation, and keep the budget tied to the website you are actually building.
A focused first-site shortlist
Write a one-page requirement list before opening several pricing tabs. Include the number of websites, realistic storage, staff email needs, update responsibility and the amount you can commit initially. Separate essential features from tools you may never use. Then check the shortlist against those requirements using the same review date and explicit billing terms. This makes telaHosting’s lower listed charge meaningful for the chosen workload and gives you a clear basis for deciding when a larger allocation would be justified.

A lower listed monthly rate without a four-year prepayment
One small website where the business values a low initial hosting payment and monthly billing.
telaHosting Starter lists £0.96 with monthly billing. Hostinger Single lists £1.49/month when £71.52 is prepaid for 48 months. That is a £0.53, or 35.57%, lower listed monthly rate. The listed initial hosting amounts are £0.96 for one month and £71.52 for 48 months.
- Hostinger’s £1.49 is a 48-month prepaid offer, not its monthly-billed offer.
- Hostinger explicitly includes weekly backups and a different builder/tool bundle.
- Hostinger prices exclude VAT; telaHosting’s captured public projection does not state its VAT basis. The 35.57% compares listed rates, not tax-inclusive invoices.

Five included business-email addresses versus one
A small business that needs several ordinary role or staff email addresses and only a modest website-storage allocation.
Starter cPanel lists five business-email addresses at £0.96/month. IONOS Standard lists one at £3/month for six months, then £6/month excluding VAT. The included-address allowance is five times as large; the listed initial monthly rate is 68.00% lower.
- IONOS Standard has 100GB NVMe storage versus telaHosting’s 10GB.
- IONOS Plus also advertises £1/month for 12 months with 200GB and two addresses. Standard is not IONOS’ lowest promotional price.
- The catalogue says Business Email: 5; do not expand this to five equivalent Microsoft-style user licences or assume mailbox capacity.
- The 68.00% uses listed charges; IONOS excludes VAT and telaHosting’s public VAT basis is unstated.
